Gutter Maintenance Tips

When it comes to your home’s gutter maintenance, it is important to stay up to date. By doing so, you can catch problems while they are still small and manageable rather than waiting for them to grow more serious. If you wait too long, you may need replacement gutters

1. Clean Your Gutters

If your gutters are not clean and free from debris, your gutter system will not perform properly, and you will have problems. Pay attention to them and give them the tender love and care they need, or else they won’t work correctly, and you will need to purchase replacement gutters.

2. Make Sure Your Gutters Are Secure

Gutters fill with rain, and that can get heavy, water weighs around eight pounds per gallon, and when you do the math, depending on how much rain falls in your area, your gutter system will be handling some serious weight throughout a rainy season. That being the case, you must check the strength of the gutter systems anchored to your roof and the side of your house throughout the rainy season. The high weight can cause some of the fastenings of the structure to become loose. If the gutter begins to pull away from the house, it can cause severe damage to the home and the gutter system.

3. Check for Leaks

Test your homes gutter system out with a hose every so often, if you see that it is leaking in certain areas, you can patch up the holes, or if you notice that the weight of the water running through it is causing it to sag, you can address that.

4. Check Water Runoff

When the water is running through your gutter system, you can also check your runoff system. Making sure your downspouts are draining far enough away from your home to avoid water pooling that can cause erosion that could crack or leak into your foundation.
